Bolton Mets

A.R.L.F.C.

Club History

The club was founded in 1995 as Breightmet ARLFC by J Dorning, A Knight and M Appleyard. After playing a season of friendlies we joined division 6 of the North West Counties in 1996. In 1999 the club changed name to Bolton Mets (Mets being short for Breightmet) in order to raise the profile of the club and widen the potential cachement area for players.

We have had many ups and downs and at times, early in our existance, have struggled to field a team. However every season has thrown up at least a few games which highlight why we play rugby league. These include winning with 12 men and beating teams from higher divisions. Since then we have built season upon season, and now have a strong squad and are confident of the future of rugby league in Bolton.

Another aspect of the club that we are very proud of is the social aspect of our club. We pride ourselves on the inclusive nature of our club, arranging many social events thoughout the year attended by players and supporters alike. The best known of these are the annual trip to the grand-final (fancy dress compulsary) and the legendry Bolton Mets rugby tour.

Present Day

We currently reside in Division 5 after being relegated last year. All involved with the club were massively disapointed with our performances last year and everyone has worked extremely hard over the summer to reverse this. Under the leadership of a new coaching team, headed by Paul Wilcock, the whole team is looking forward to new season and we are confident that we will do well. Evidence for this can be seen from the two victorious pre-season friendlies.
